This article is bad for my bank account. I must say that one of the things I'm enjoying about being here is that I finally get to be one of those gamers, you know, the ones who play all the import titles, picking up games that may never be localized or getting games long before they reach stateside. Not that I have too many games like that right now - I have Contact, which will probably be localized for the States soon, and Rule of Rose, which will be released there next week; everything else I own has already been localized. (Well, maybe not Otostaz, but I'm not sure. Okay, I just checked; Otostaz is only available here.)
Also, the Japanese don't think of gaming as being for kids or boys only - there are plenty of adult gamers and female gamers (including adult female gamers!). It's a nice change of pace. However, they seem to be surprised that a gaijin likes playing video games, and most of the gaijin here don't realize that the Japanese view these things differently. One of my students, a young housewife, was avidly playing Mother 3 on her NDS.
I ordered a small TV for my room, so I can play on my PS2 in here. I found a comparison shopping site for home electronics and ordered the cheapest one I could find. I'm pretty excited by the idea of successfully ordering something online in Japanese. But the store emailed me and said they're out of stock so my order is delayed a little bit. *sigh*
