I wanted to post a bit about books I've been reading lately and a few movies I've watched recently, but something else has come up. Maybe later.
This morning, my parents surprised me with plans to go down to Taft for 4th of July weekend. I really, really don't want to go, but on the other hand, I feel like a jerk for not wanting to go. My grandparents live in the Taft area, you see, my mom's parents, the ones who've lost a son (to suicide) and a grandson (to drunk driving) in the last year. I haven't seen them in a while, and they're definitely getting older. Their health has really been declining rapidly in the last couple of years, especially my grandmother. I miss them, and I love them, but I really wasn't planning on going anywhere this weekend. And Taft is a terrible place to go in the summer, especially for a coastal person like me. Blech.
I hadn't gotten around to making plans, so I don't have any excuse not to go. I just don't want to, and I don't like being surprised like this.
